Senior Citizens
In the not-too-distant future, the number of senior citizens in the United States is projected to out-number children. In fact, as the Baby Boomer generation continues aging, 1-in-5 Americans will soon be aged 65 or older.
There is a common misconception that once we’ve reached a “certain age,” we have (or should have) figured “everything” out. But of course, the golden years are when we often experience our most profound loss: the death of a spouse, children moving away and starting their own families (Empty Nest Syndrome), retirement, reduced income, and physical/mental/emotional challenges. Speaking with a therapist who specializes in senior citizens can be highly beneficial in providing a different perspective, and helping the client regain some of the joy they feel they have lost.
Many older clients seeking talk therapy have never done so before. But now, as people are living longer, and the social stigma of psychological counseling has diminished, they are willing to try something new.
