Counseling Children , Tweens and Teens, Play Therapy, Activity Therapy, and Parent support
Hi, I’m Shannon Reilly, a Graduate Student Counseling Intern at The University of North Texas in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I’m passionate about helping children, tweens, and teens experiencing trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, life-transitions, learning difficulties, chronic illnesses, family troubles, and everyday life struggles.
My Services:
- Play Therapy – a commonly used form of counseling for young children which helps them express or communicate their emotions, process experiences, and develop skills for life.
- Individual Therapy for Tweens and Teens
- Parent Support
Whether you’re seeking to:
- Help your children navigate everyday life struggles
- Process bigger emotions from trauma, loss, or anxiety
- Learn new strategies for behavior challenges
- Cope with chronic illness
My Approach:
I use a child-centered and person-centered framework. This means I believe my clients hold the key to their own healing and growth. My role is to provide a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space for that to happen. I will work collaboratively with you to set and achieve your unique goals. For children, this often involves play therapy to help them express feelings and build confidence. For teens and parents, we’ll focus on building communication skills, strengthening relationships, and navigating life’s challenges. I lead with compassion, empathy, authenticity, and open ears.
Additional Information:
- Finding the “right” therapist for you and your situation can feel overwhelming. However, this is an important step toward supporting you, your child, and your family system in the therapeutic process. My hope is that you can learn more about me, as a human and as a therapist, to determine if we are the right fit.
- I earned a B.A. in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin in 2023, while also completing a certificate program in Children & Society.
- I spent three years working as a research assistant at a children’s hospital in Austin, TX. My research included investigating diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Consultation-Liaison team such as adequate translator services. Our second project explored the psycho-social effects of parents, caregivers, and children with loved ones in the hospital due to congenital heart defects.
- The past two years I have worked at a Kindergarten through 8th grade private school in Dallas, assisting their Student Success Center for students with accommodations.
- I played soccer growing up from the time I could stand until the end of high school, sparking my love for sports. On most weekends you can catch me watching or traveling to watch some of my favorite sports teams (especially Texas Football, hook‘em horns!).
- In my off-time I enjoy spending time outside, in Lagree classes, watching and participating in sports activities, catching up with friends while trying new restaurants, visiting my fiancé in whatever city his baseball career takes him, and hanging out with my family and Mini Golden Doodle, Buddy!
My rate is $75 for a 45-minute session, $112 for parent consultation session. Click here to request an appointment.
